Training for a marathon’s far from easy! But when it’s a run as prestigious as the Boston Marathon to raise money for school meals, it’s absolutely worth it.

That’s why we’re delighted to announce that Haroon will be running the Boston marathon in April for school meals.

Why Head All the Way to the US?

As the world’s oldest annual marathon, the Boston Marathon isn’t just any marathon.

Taking place on Monday 17th April in Ramadan, it will actually be the tenth anniversary of the 2013 Boston Marathon terrorist attack that led three dead and hundreds injured. This makes 2023’s marathon particularly personal for Haroon since it’s an opportunity to address Islamophobia.

By taking part in this marathon and running for a good cause, he gets to show the world the true side of Muslims, and how charity and community are pivotal values of the faith.

But there’s another reason Haroon’s doing all this…

The Boston Marathon will not only be Haroon’s 22nd marathon, it will also mark his sixth and final World Marathon Major, earning him the title Six Star Finisher. This coveted title is only given to people who have completed all of the six major marathons in the world: Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, New York and Tokyo.

How Does an Expert Train for a Marathon?

Training for a marathon really makes you appreciate Charity Right’s end-goal. For us, nutrition allows children to become healthy, both physically and mentally, so they can enjoy their childhood and focus on their studies, ready to make the most of their future.

For Haroon, proper nutrition is vital for the intense training needed for a marathon. In fact, that’s a lot of what brought Haroon to Charity Right in the first place – our shared passion for food and the possibilities that nutrition can open up.

But when you’re planning to run 26.2 miles in just one day, the importance of nutrition and hydration can’t be understated – especially when you’re training during Ramadan! On top of that, he’s doing speed work, interval training and strength training in the gym, as well as a 20-mile run every Sunday.
